Beasts of Burden: Animal Rites by Evan Dorkin art by Jill Thompson YP FIC DORKIN

Burden Hill is an idyllic community of happy homes and white picket fences, but under the surface a dark evil is rising and only one force can stop it: house pets. A pack of neighborhood dogs (and one cat) find themselves drawn into deeper and darker supernatural mysteries until they realize that they form the last line of defense against the evil forces.

Disney meets the Forces of Darkness in this fun, humorous, sweet, and seriously twisted comic. At the core it is very sweet and positive tale of friendship and loyalty among pets. The art has a wonderful storybook quality and the characters absolutely come to life and feel just like your own pets, but the twisted part is when the storybook turns HORRORSHOW!!! Zombie pets, werewolves, giant frogs, evil rat societies all show up to maim and kill! But even with all the gore and grime the essential goodness of the characters seems real and always shines through. A good read for any comics fans that like great art, good stories, and something unique.
